I am belatedly thinking that maybe it’s not the best thing in the world to fill up my kid’s Easter basket with a metric ton of candy and jelly beans. Maybe there is a healthier way?
I realize I’m talking to a group that knows 1001 ways to grease your colon and poison your liver, but I’m throwing this out anyway. What say you, Oppo, anyone want to suggest yummy but less sugary Easter treats for the Easter Bunny to bring?

Dark chocolate?

For the extra antioxidants? Not what I was thinking, but I could make that work. :)

Granola bars with chocolate in them. Homemade Chex mix. Dried fruit and nut mixes (though they’re still high in sugar).
How about filling up their Easter baskets with non-food items? I don’t know how old your kids are, but maybe one or two small toys (you can’t go wrong with a stuffed animal), some age-appropriate books, small puzzle games (Barnes and Noble has a pretty good selection). Coloring books with crayons and markers. Chapter books, if they’re already old enough for that.
A little candy won’t hurt. Maybe a handful of smaller candies, like chocolate eggs, and one or two larger pieces, like a Reece’s Peanut Butter egg, or a chocolate bunny.

Little toys with a small amount of favorite candy? Money?

In gunna pay close attention to this. My kid get way to much crap

Yeah, and it's a good way to get those kids cultured ! I'd imagine it has less sugar too.

my kids easter egg hunt for plastic eggs full of random dollar store stuff, some jokes, some things they make for each other, and one big egg "the daddy egg" that has money in it.

You can fill the eggs with little toys.

Do you bake? There’s a bunch of recipes online for stuff with peanut butter or fruit or granola or whatever that’s still pretty tasty without giving your kids the beetus.

Goldfish crackers? Trail mix? Small toys (hot wheels!) or games? Little craft kit/activity type things? I think I got one of those wooden dinosaur skeleton kits one year... If a girl, what about cute barrettes? Either gender, wacky socks? Those foam pills you drop in water to grow weird shapes? Science experiment-type kits (maybe growing rock candy, so there's at least a wait and something to learn)? Sorry, no idea what age group we’re talking about so I’m just throwing stuff out there.

These are great suggestions.

That’s a good idea.

These are all great ideas. We’re in early grade school.

I’m not sure about the sugar, but she loves those dark chocolate covered cranberries, etc. I’ll get those instead of jelly beans.

Yeah, we do too. Our neighborhood has a big hunt in the park on Saturday. The older kids help the younger ones find eggs. It’s a blast. There is usually a little candy or a ring or something inside. Dime store things.

That’s a good idea. I’m gonna stop at the dollar store.

Oh, I bake big time. I’ll see what I can find.

We did this with coins. It helped me empty out the change cup. A few eggs had treats (chocolate eggs and whatnot).
We also went to great effort to hide two “special” eggs. The gold egg had $20 and the silver egg had $15. Much to my daughter’s chagrin, my son had a knack for finding the gold egg every year.
Every. Year.

we may have held onto the big one once and dropped it in the path of the child who missed out previously

We tried giving subtle hints, but the wiley one caught on before the other could follow the hints.

it’s one day a year. I’d like it if we could get past this mindset that eating one burger will clog up your arteries, or eating one piece of candy will make you obese and diabetic.

I still love me my treats, and we won't be cutting them out. I just want to moderate them a bit. Usually we end up with baskets full of sugar that last into the next week.
